Zimbabwean National Identity Card Requirements
 

Note that Zimbabwe National Identity Cards are only issued in Zimbabwe, where a personal appearance is required for photos and fingerprinting.

 

1.            Requirements for a New Identity Card: Initial Registration for Persons who are 16 and Above

(a)                 Long Birth Certificate

(b)                 Father’s National Identity Card or Mother’s National Identity Card i.e. for children with single mothers

(c)                 If both parents are dead, the death certificates are needed. If you get a passport before you get an ID, the passport is also required

 

2.             Replacing Lost National Identity Card

(a)                 Long Birth Certificate

(b)                 Passport (this only applies to people living outside Zimbabwe).

 

3.             Requirements for Women Changing National Identity Card as a Result of Marriage

(a)                 Marriage Certificate plus two copies of the same.

(b)                 Current National Identity card plus two copies of the same

(c)                 Long Birth Certificate

 

4.             Requirements for Changing National Identity Card due to Change of Name Through Notarial Deed

(a)                 Birth Certificate in new name plus two copies of the same.

(b)                 Current National Identity Card plus two copies of the same.

(c)                 Notarial Deed plus one copy of the same.

 

5.             Change of National Identity Card due to Legitimization

(a)                 This occurs when a child was initially registered using wrong parents i.e. in the absence of father etc.

(b)                 New Birth Certificate plus two copies of the same

(c)                 Current National Identity plus two copies of the same.

 

6.             Correction of Wrongly Spelt Names

(a)                 Correct Birth Certificate plus copy of the same

(b)                 Current National Identity card plus copy of the same.

 

7.             Requirements for Foreign Nationals who have Permanent Residence in Zimbabwe

(a)                 Residence Permit (should be six months old from date of issuance)

(b)                 Passport

(c)                 Marriage Certificate (for a married couple).
